Removal of presidential term limit welcome – Isaiah Brian Sovi
It’s good that ZAMBIA and relevant MPs are now discussing the TERM LIMITS I proposed before others jumped on the bandwagon.
When I raised the issue, my point was that Zambia should seriously consider whether a 5-YEAR TERM gives elected leaders enough time to properly implement long-term programmes and deliver meaningful development.
I proposed a 10 YEAR TERM, not because leaders should have unlimited time in office, but because there needs to be enough time to actually WORK, BUILD AND SEE RESULTS from major programmes.
Of course, a longer term must come with STRONG ACCOUNTABILITY and proper checks and balances.
I’m glad the conversation I started is now taking place publicly. These are the kind of issues ZAMBIANS SHOULD BE ABLE TO DEBATE OPENLY.

This is not the debate we should be having. We dont need it. Those advocating for it are doing so from their stomachs.
We just can not have that third term. Let those advocating for that to have it in their homes or their respective parties. This is a raw debate which should not be entertained even in one’s dreams. After ten years one must leave peacefully and another one should come in. The militia guys are also looking to 2031, where do you put them?
