Russia Accuses Ukraine of Renewed Strike on Ryazan Oil Refinery

Russia has accused Ukraine of launching a large-scale drone attack on an oil refinery in the Ryazan region, southeast of Moscow, as tensions over attacks on energy infrastructure escalate once again.

Russia’s Defence Ministry said drone debris fell onto the refinery grounds, triggering a fire. A Ukrainian official separately confirmed that Ukrainian forces had struck the facility.

The attack came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy declared that Kyiv would resume strikes on Russian oil refineries, saying the restrictions on such operations were over.

The renewed strikes follow a proposed energy ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump over the weekend. Moscow continued attacking Ukrainian energy infrastructure, while Kyiv said it had temporarily suspended its own attacks on Russian energy sites.

The dispute has intensified tensions between Kyiv and Washington, with Zelenskyy criticising US pressure to halt Ukrainian strikes while Russian attacks continue.

The latest developments raise further doubts over prospects for a mutual halt to attacks on energy infrastructure as the war continues.
