RUSSIA CONFIRMS DELIBERATE STRIKES ON UKRAINE’S DIGITAL INFRASTRUCTURE
Russia’s Defense Ministry has acknowledged that its forces deliberately targeted data-processing centers, logistics hubs and warehouse terminals in Ukraine during today’s attack.
Moscow claimed that the facilities were being used “in the interests of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” but provided no publicly verifiable evidence supporting that allegation.
Ukrainian internet providers Pavutyna and UTELS reported that data centers containing critical network equipment were damaged. Some equipment was left without electricity, disrupting internet access as emergency crews worked to restore services.
Data centers are not exclusively military facilities. They can carry civilian communications, banking services, commercial systems and the internet connections used every day by families, hospitals and businesses. Merely declaring a civilian facility to be connected to Ukraine’s military does not erase its civilian role or automatically justify every consequence of striking it.
Russia has increasingly attached military labels to data centers, warehouses, postal terminals, energy infrastructure and other facilities serving millions of Ukrainians. The pattern is increasingly clear: attack the systems sustaining ordinary life, then claim that anything helping Ukraine survive must be a military target.
Today, Moscow did not deny striking Ukraine’s digital infrastructure. It admitted doing so—and attempted to justify it.
