Russia Discusses Several Ways to Neutralize Starlink
A Russian academician has outlined several possible approaches for disrupting or disabling Starlink, which has become an important communications tool for Ukrainian forces.
According to Militarnyi, Sergei Zheleznyakov, an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, discussed potential methods ranging from electronic warfare and interference with satellite communications to more extreme options involving attacks on the satellite network.
The report says the proposals were presented in the context of Russia’s efforts to counter the military use of Starlink. However, these are proposed scenarios rather than evidence that such measures have been successfully implemented.
Starlink operates a large constellation of low-Earth-orbit satellites, making it considerably more difficult to disrupt than a single communications satellite. Russia has also been developing its own Rassvet satellite network as a potential alternative for military and civilian communications.
The discussion highlights how satellite communications have become an increasingly important part of modern warfare, particularly for drones, battlefield connectivity and data exchange.
