Russia Reportedly Secretly Assisting Iran’s Development of Advanced Supersonic Cruise Missiles
A new Financial Times investigation reports that Russia has allegedly been secretly assisting Iran since 2023 in the development of advanced supersonic cruise missile technology under a covert program reportedly codenamed C430L.
According to the investigation, the alleged cooperation involves Russian missile specialists and technology related to ramjet propulsion, a system that could potentially allow future Iranian cruise missiles to travel at several times the speed of sound.
Such capabilities, if successfully developed and deployed, could pose a significant challenge to U.S. aircraft carriers, warships and other military assets operating across the Middle East.
However, the report does not suggest that Iran already possesses an operational Russian-assisted supersonic cruise missile. According to the investigation, Iran has reportedly conducted flight tests involving its ramjet technology, but the missile under development has not yet entered operational service.
If the reported cooperation is confirmed, it could represent one of the most significant military technology transfers between Moscow and Tehran in recent years, further highlighting the deepening defense and strategic partnership between Russia and Iran.
The development could also raise fresh concerns in Washington and among U.S. allies, as both countries continue to expand military cooperation amid growing geopolitical tensions and confrontation in the Middle East.
