RUSSIA SAYS IT LEADS THE WORLD IN NUCLEAR POWER AND PLANS TO BUILD 30 GIGAWATTS MORE

Vladimir Putin has declared that Russia is the global leader in nuclear power plant construction. He said Russia is the only country in the world with expertise across the entire nuclear energy chain.

The statements came during a meeting on nuclear energy development.

Putin said Russia adheres to traditionally high standards of safety and reliability for nuclear power plants. These advantages allow the country to hold a leading position in the global nuclear construction market.

The nuclear industry is a source of pride for the country. It has powerful concentration of science, technology, advanced materials, and unique professional

Rosatom currently has 28 power units under construction across nine countries, including India, China, Turkey, Egypt, Iran, Bangladesh, and Hungary. The company also has signed agreements for 17 more units in countries like Vietnam, Kazakhstan, and Ethiopia.

Russia plans to bring online around 30 gigawatts of nuclear generating capacity. This includes small modular reactors. The new capacity will replace units reaching the end of their service life and significantly increase overall nuclear generation.

The country needs to strengthen its technological leadership. Competition in the global nuclear industry is fierce. Russia must maintain a high level of training for specialists, scientists, engineers, and workers.

Nuclear power plants will be built in the Urals, Siberia, and the Far East. The goal is to provide affordable, clean electricity to these regions.

If Russia can build nuclear plants across the world while under sanctions, what is stopping other countries from doing the same. And how long before Moscow’s nuclear exports become a tool of geopolitical influence.
