RUSSIA STRIKES TWO PASSENGER TRAINS—AT LEAST 10 ATTACKED IN ONE MONTH
Russian forces directly targeted the Dnipro–Zaporizhzhia passenger train during the latest attack. The train was stopped and its passengers evacuated before the strike, preventing mass casualties. However, contact was initially lost with a conductor who reportedly returned to the train while the evacuation and danger were continuing. Rescue operations are underway.
Russia also launched two targeted drone strikes against the Kyiv–Sumy passenger train as it approached Sumy. Ninety people were evacuated safely and transported onward by buses.
These were not isolated incidents. At least 10 passenger trains have been directly attacked since August 8, including trains in the Sumy, Odesa, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Kherson and Dnipropetrovsk regions. The count does not include the many additional strikes on railway stations, depots, locomotives, bridges and power infrastructure.
Passenger trains are clearly marked, follow predictable routes and carry civilians. Ukraine’s monitoring teams and railway workers have repeatedly prevented far greater losses by stopping trains and evacuating passengers—sometimes with only minutes to spare.
