Russian Drone Strike on Kyiv-Area Weapons Depot Kills 37, Nearly 400 Evacuated
A Russian drone strike hit a warehouse storing ammunition in Myla, west of Kyiv, on the night of August 28, triggering a massive explosion and fires that spread to nearby residential areas.
Ukrainian officials said at least 37 people were killed and 42 others injured. Nearly 400 residents were evacuated, while more than 50 residential buildings were damaged.
The warehouse reportedly contained shells, mines, drones and other ammunition. The blast also severely damaged a nearby facility for elderly and disabled people, with many of the victims reported to have been inside the facility.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the storage of explosives near residential areas as serious negligence and ordered a criminal investigation into how the ammunition was stored at the site.
Russia’s Defense Ministry confirmed the strike, saying the target was linked to Ukraine’s weapons infrastructure and the production of long-range drones.
The attack is currently the deadliest reported Russian strike in Ukraine in 2026.
