Russian Nuclear-Capable Tu-95MS Bombers Conduct 13-Hour Mission Over Pacific Region

Russia has deployed two Tu-95MS strategic missile-carrying bombers on a flight lasting more than 13 hours over the neutral waters of the Bering and Chukchi seas, near Alaska, according to Russia’s Defence Ministry.

The aircraft conducted aerial refuelling during the mission and were escorted by Su-35S fighter jets. Russian officials also said foreign military aircraft accompanied the bombers during some portions of their route, without identifying the countries involved.

The Tu-95MS is a long-range strategic bomber capable of carrying nuclear-armed cruise missiles, making it a key component of Russia’s nuclear deterrent. However, Moscow has not said that nuclear weapons were carried during this particular flight.

Russia described the mission as a scheduled operation conducted in accordance with international airspace rules. The flight highlights Moscow’s continued long-range aviation activity across the Arctic and North Pacific, where Russian military aircraft are closely monitored by other countries.
