RUSSIA’S WAREHOUSE WAR REACHES KYIV’S SUPERMARKET SHELVES
Russia is systematically attacking the civilian logistics network that keeps Kyiv supplied.
Repeated strikes have damaged or destroyed warehouses serving major retailers, including Silpo, Fora, Roshen and other grocery, household-goods and electronics chains. Fora alone reportedly suffered three attacks on its logistics infrastructure during August.
The consequences are now visible inside some supermarkets. Rice, buckwheat, eggs, dairy products, meat, fish and fresh produce have temporarily disappeared from certain shelves as retailers struggle to reroute deliveries. Signs have appeared telling customers plainly: “This product was destroyed by Russia.”
This is not yet a citywide food shortage. Many stores remain stocked, and chains with unaffected distribution networks continue operating normally. But Ukrainians are having greater difficulty finding some everyday necessities, particularly at stores supplied by the damaged warehouses.
Russia is not only attacking power plants and apartment buildings. It is targeting the quiet machinery of civilian life—the warehouses, refrigerated storage and delivery networks that place food on family tables. The objective is to make ordinary life more expensive, uncertain and exhausting.
