SACCORD SAYS ECZ ACTING WITHIN LAW ON BALLOT MARKINGS
The Southern African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes-SACCORD- says the Electoral Commission of Zambia-ECZ- is acting within the law regarding ballot markings.
This comes amid assertions that the ECZ has changed the law on how voters should mark ballot papers ahead of the August 13 general election
However, SACCORD Executive Director Arthur Muyunda said no one has instructed the ECZ to change the law, and stressed that the provision on ballot markings has always been in the law.
Mr. Muyunda explained that section 60 of the amended Electoral Process Act of 2026 allows voters to mark their ballot in any manner within the box corresponding to their preferred candidate, including using an X or a tick.
He has urged political players and other stakeholders to familiarize themselves with the amended Act to avoid unnecessary misunderstandings as the country heads to the polls.
