SADC HEADS OF STATE DISCUSS DRC SECURITY SITUATION

October 31, 2023

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA today participated in a virtual Extraordinary SADC Summit (EO-Summit) his fellow Heads of State. Among the various topics discussed, were the SADC Mission In The Democratic Republic of the Congo (SAMIDRC) and the ongoing security situation in the Eastern part of the country.

President Hichilema reiterated that there can be no meaningful economic development in the region in the absence of peace and security.

The Zambian government and its people have pledged and reaffirmed commitment to being a shining beacon of peace in championing the realization of a peaceful and ultimately a prosperous Africa.

President Hichilema expressed gratitude to His Excellency Joao Munuel Goncalves Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola and Chairperson of SADC, for convening the important meeting, aimed at finding a lasting solution to the security challenges in the Eastern DRC.

The UPND Party Manifesto is anchored on peaceful resolution of conflict in Africa and use of multilateral bodies to ensure that developing countries’ voices are heard on international issues.
