SAFA to announce new Bafana coach next Saturday
The South African Football Association (SAFA) will announce the new Bafana Bafana head coach on Saturday, 8 August, following a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
SAFA president Danny Jordaan confirmed the timeline during the farewell press conference for outgoing coach Hugo Broos, whose five-year spell in charge officially came to an end. Jordaan said the NEC will meet next weekend to ratify the recommendation made by the association’s technical committee.
“Next week Saturday we will have a NEC meeting and that is when a decision will be taken,” said Jordaan.
The technical committee, chaired by Jack Maluleke, has intensified the search for Broos’ successor and has already interviewed at least four local coaches. There is growing belief within SAFA that the time is right to appoint a South African coach following the success local tacticians have enjoyed on the African continent in recent years.
Former Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane is widely regarded as the leading candidate for the position.
The new coach will have little time to settle in, with Bafana set to face Guinea in their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between 23 and 25 September. The Betway Premiership season also gets underway this weekend, giving the incoming coach an opportunity to begin monitoring players immediately.
