Saudi Arabia Reportedly Weighs Support for Yemen Ground Offensive

Saudi Arabia is reportedly considering supporting a Yemeni ground offensive aimed at capturing coastal areas along the Red Sea currently controlled by Ansarullah (the Houthis), according to The Jerusalem Post.

The reported discussions come amid growing regional tensions and concerns over Ansarullah’s expanding military capabilities. Any major ground operation along Yemen’s western coastline could represent a significant escalation, potentially reshaping control over strategically important areas bordering the Red Sea.

According to the report, Saudi Arabia could provide varying forms of support to Yemeni forces involved in such an operation, although the precise nature and scope of any potential assistance remain unclear.

At the same time, Ansarullah has spent years developing and expanding its missile and drone arsenal, building capabilities that it has demonstrated can threaten targets well beyond Yemen.

Saudi Arabia remains particularly vulnerable because of its extensive network of oil facilities, airports, ports and other critical infrastructure. Ansarullah has previously launched attacks targeting Saudi territory, underscoring the potential risks of any renewed large-scale military confrontation.

Iran’s role is another major factor in the regional equation. Tehran has maintained political and strategic ties with Ansarullah, while Saudi Arabia and Iran have simultaneously sought to manage tensions through diplomatic engagement.

A new offensive on Yemen’s Red Sea coast could therefore have consequences far beyond the battlefield. It could threaten maritime security, increase pressure on regional shipping routes and potentially draw Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United States into a wider confrontation

For now, the key question is whether reported Saudi support would translate into an actual military operation or remain part of contingency planning amid the continuing struggle for control and influence in Yemen.

Any major offensive against Ansarullah-held coastal areas would carry significant escalation risks, particularly given the group’s demonstrated ability to strike strategic targets deep inside Saudi Arabia.
