The pipeline provides Saudi Arabia with an alternative route for exporting crude without relying on the Strait of Hormuz. Yanbu can handle millions of barrels of oil per day, although the actual volume affected by the disruption remains unclear.
The development comes amid wider disruptions to regional energy routes, including the reported closure of the Strait of Hormuz and restrictions affecting shipping through the Bab el-Mandeb.
