BREAKING: Sen. Chris Murphy REFUSES another $67 BILLION for Trump’s Iran war as American families prepare to struggle to fill their kids’ lunchboxes come September!
Sen. Chris Murphy just drew a line on Donald Trump’s increasingly expensive war in Iran: End it before asking American taxpayers for another $67 billion.
NBC’s Kristen Welker hosted Murphy on Meet the Press to discuss the Pentagon’s request for more billion more in defense funding, mostly to replenish weapons stockpiles depleted by the war.
A member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Murphy said he’ll never vote for it while the fighting continues.
“The priority right now is ending this war,” Murphy said. “Seven in ten Americans want this war to end.
Then Murphy brought the cost of Trump’s war out of the Pentagon and straight to the kitchen table.
Families are being bankrupted as we speak by this war,” Murphy said. “As kids are going back to school, families are realizing that filling up lunchboxes this year is going to cost them $4,000 more than it did last year.”
That $4,000 figure is Murphy’s estimate, but his larger point is impossible to miss.
Americans experience inflation at the gas pump and grocery store, and the end of summer will invariably bring those higher expenses crashing together with the yearly necessities of new school supplies, clothes, lunches and everything else September demands from a family budget.
Murphy knows the Pentagon isn’t asking for $67 billion for a war that is over, but to pay the enormous sum necessary to replenish the thousands upon thousands of multi-million dollar weapons the United States has already burned through while the fighting continues.
Murphy specified we have shot off “almost all of our interceptors” and a majority of its Tomahawk missiles, warning that the depletion has put the country in a “dangerous position” against potential future threats from Russia and China.
But Murphy made an important distinction. If Trump ends the war, he said Democrats will help replenish America’s depleted arsenal. What he won’t do is hand Trump another $67 billion to keep burning through weapons while the fighting continues.
“No, I’m not going to support additional funding,” he said, predicting his Democratic colleagues won’t either, calling the war one that is “destroying American credibility and destroying American families.”
And that damage reaches far beyond the Pentagon. Trump’s war is draining America’s military reserves, piling billions onto taxpayers, driving up gas and grocery prices and squeezing families who are already struggling to make ends meet.
