Two men have been arrested in Naledi, Soweto, Johannesburg, after police allegedly discovered two buckets containing suspected human organs during a crime prevention operation
According to authorities, officers were acting on information about a government vehicle that was allegedly being stripped for parts at a residential property. When they searched the premises, they found a Volkswagen Caddy belonging to the National Department of Health, which had reportedly been hijacked and was in the process of being dismantled.
Police say they also discovered two buckets allegedly containing what appeared to be human hearts and lungs inside the property. Forensic experts have since been called in to examine the organs and determine whether they are human and where they came from.
The two suspects were arrested at the scene and are currently in police custody. Investigators are also searching for the owner of the property as they continue to establish whether more people were involved.
At this stage, police have not confirmed any link between the discovery and murder, organ trafficking, or muti-related crimes, and no victims have been identified. The investigation remains ongoing while forensic examinations continue.
