SHOULD PRESIDENT HH GO BEYOND 2031?
Florence Chileshe Chama, one of the women elected to Parliament under the UPND through the proportional representation system, has called for support for President Hakainde Hichilema to remain in office beyond 2031.
Speaking to Diamond TV, Chama thanked President Hichilema for nominating 20 women to Parliament and said women should prioritise national development and support the President.
“I want to thank President Hakainde Hichilema for nominating 20 women in Parliament.”
She added: “As women, we don’t want democracy, we want development in Zambia by supporting our president to go beyond 2031.”
Under Article 106 of the Constitution, a presidential term is five years, while a person who has twice held the office of President is not eligible for election as President.
This campaign is both unnecessary and wrong. Two terms are enough even for those of us who supported HH is 2021 and 2026.
Where is this panic coming from?
No….10 years is enough,you know its two terms for an individual
It will be extremely foolish for the President, HH, to go beyond 2031. Where is this lunacy coming from? Is this lady suggesting that we can only have development under HH? PF put up alot of infrastructure development though it was used as a conduit for theft of public funds. So, according to the twisted reasoning of this lady, we should have maintained PF and Mr. Lungu beyond 2021?
I supported HH and voted for him in 2021 and 2026 but if he makes the fatal mistake of trying to go beyond 2031, he definitely will not have my support irrespective of how well he does during his second term.
The two term limit is a control measure to prevent total destruction like we almost suffered under the PF.
We should not entertain such madness. What can one fail to do in 10 years? We are not short of people to lead us. At the end of the next five years, we will thank HH for whatever he will have accomplished and look forward to the next leader.
I do not think that this issue should even come up for discussion. There are more pressing issues requiring attention, thanks.
