SHOULD PRESIDENT HH GO BEYOND 2031?
Florence Chileshe Chama, one of the women elected to Parliament under the UPND through the proportional representation system, has called for support for President Hakainde Hichilema to remain in office beyond 2031.
Speaking to Diamond TV, Chama thanked President Hichilema for nominating 20 women to Parliament and said women should prioritise national development and support the President.
“I want to thank President Hakainde Hichilema for nominating 20 women in Parliament.”
She added: “As women, we don’t want democracy, we want development in Zambia by supporting our president to go beyond 2031.”
Under Article 106 of the Constitution, a presidential term is five years, while a person who has twice held the office of President is not eligible for election as President.
