SOUTH AFRICA: South African Businesswoman Told To “Go Back To Her Country” After Anti-Immigration Protesters Burn Her Salon In Durban
A Durban businesswoman, Zanele Mkhize, has been told to go back to her country after anti-immigration protesters looted her businesses and set fire to her hair salon, apparently unaware that she is South African.
Mkhize, who spent two years saving to start her business and has been operating since 2015, arrived to find her salon burned, televisions and equipment stolen, and her laundry and other business premises looted.
Her businesses employ 22 South Africans, whose livelihoods have now been placed at risk.
When Mkhize explained that she was South African, protesters reportedly ignored her.
“We don’t attack South African businesses. If we attacked your business, then it means you are a foreigner,” one protester reportedly told her.
Mkhize was advised to stop pretending to be South African and return to wherever she came from.
