SPAIN’S YOUTH MINISTER ACCUSES ISRAEL OF “CRIMINAL” CONDUCT, CALLS FOR ACCOUNTABILITY OVER GAZA
Spain’s Minister of Youth and Children, Sira Rego, has delivered one of the strongest criticisms yet from a senior Spanish government official, describing the Israeli government as a “criminal regime” and accusing it of carrying out atrocities in Gaza.
Rego insisted that her remarks were not an attempt to defame Israel, but rather a characterization of what she said were the realities of its actions during the ongoing conflict. She argued that the international community must acknowledge the scale of the humanitarian crisis and ensure accountability for alleged violations of international law.
The minister’s comments come amid a continuing deterioration in relations between Spain and Israel. Madrid has repeatedly condemned Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, accusing it of breaching international humanitarian law and calling for stronger international action to protect civilians.
Spain has emerged as one of the most outspoken European critics of Israel’s conduct in the war, with senior officials repeatedly urging an immediate ceasefire, increased humanitarian access, and international investigations into alleged war crimes.
Rego emphasized that there must be meaningful accountability for what she described as crimes against humanity, arguing that those responsible for violations of international law should face justice. Her remarks are expected to further heighten diplomatic tensions between Madrid and Jerusalem as international scrutiny of the conflict continues to intensify.
