STARLINK CONNECTIONS STABLE ABOVE 400 KM/H—UKRAINE REGAINS CRITICAL DRONE CAPABILITY
Ukraine’s Defense Minister Khmara says Starlink is again maintaining stable connections while traveling at speeds exceeding 400 kilometers per hour, following restrictions that disrupted Ukrainian military operations.
The figure describes the movement of the aircraft or terminal carrying the equipment—not internet download speed. It means a compatible drone can travel above 400 km/h while retaining its satellite connection.
The earlier restrictions affected both attack and defense. Ukrainian accounts described drones losing contact with operators during strikes against Russian targets, with aircraft lost and some missions suspended. For long-range operations conducted overnight, an interrupted connection can prevent crews from completing missions and receiving information from their aircraft.
The disruption also complicated the use of interceptor drones against Russia’s faster, jet-powered attack drones. Stable connectivity at higher speeds restores an important capability for platforms relying on these terminals.
On the battlefield, Starlink also supports communications and the networks used by drone teams, including FPV crews. Disruptions can affect coordination and video transmission, although conventional FPV drones generally use separate radio or fiber-optic control links. Their dependence on Starlink varies by setup.
The restrictions therefore reached beyond a single weapon or mission. They affected the communications supporting reconnaissance, strikes and interception.
Restoring reliable access helps Ukrainian units regain those capabilities—and makes preventing another interruption essential.
