STOP ALANGIZI TACTICS AND UPHOLD UNITY TO ACHIEVE GENDER AGENDA

Lusaka (23.11.2023) It is with regret and concern that we as women in the United Party for National Development wish to address the behavior of fellow women in politics, who have resorted to using politics and divisive tactics while neglecting the importance of solidarity and unity among women in decision making positions.

Women in politics need to be reminded that Gender Agenda rests upon the collective efforts of us women in politics who need to position ourselves as leaders, models, advocates, and pioneers of gender equality. However, it is unfortunate that women in politics gathered and overlooked their values and goal of creating a society a society where gender does nit limit opportunities or determine one’s value.

The recent attacks on the Speaker by women in politics during their press briefing is not only regrettable but also undermines the very principles ,we stand for as women.

Resorting to tactics that do not align with the ethos of gender equality and empowerment is a step backward in our collective journey towards Gender Agenda

It is important to reiterate that within the realms of parliamentary proceedings, adherence to constitutional frameworks and guidelines takes precedence over party affiliations. Judging a fellow parliamentarian based on political affiliation, or personal biases does not only derail the discussion but also detracts from the real issues at hand.

Women in politics have a pivotal role in amplifying the voices of their counterparts, fostering collaboration, and nurturing a conducive environment for increased representation of women in decision-making positions.

This responsibility extends beyond mere criticism and delves into constructive guidance, support, and mentorship.

The vision of achieving equal representation, the 50/50 call, necessitates solidarity, cooperation, and a shared vision among women in politics irrespective of their party affiliation.

Unlike resorting to divisive tactics and personal attacks, the focus should be on analyzing situations objectively, providing constructive feedback, and promoting an environment where all voices are heard and respected.

As we navigate the complexities of political discourse, it is important that women in politics uphold the values of unity, respect, and solidarity.

We call upon all women in positions of power to re-orient their approach towards collaborative problem-solving, setting aside differences and embracing the collective responsibility to advance the cause of gender equality and empowerment.
