Syria Condemns Colombia’s Recognition of Israeli Sovereignty Over Golan Heights
Syria has strongly condemned Colombia’s reported decision to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, calling the territory an inseparable part of Syrian land.
Damascus said: “The Golan is an inseparable part of Syrian territory.”
Colombia reportedly announced the decision yesterday, formally recognizing Israel’s sovereignty over the strategically important territory.
Israel captured most of the Syrian Golan Heights during the 1967 Six-Day War and has maintained control over the area ever since. Israel later annexed the territory in 1981, a move that has not been broadly recognized internationally.
The United States recognized Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights in 2019, while the United Nations continues to regard the territory as occupied Syrian territory.
Syria’s latest condemnation comes amid growing regional tensions and renewed debate over the status and future of the Golan Heights.
