Syria Rejects Saudi Request to Deploy Troops to Yemen
Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa has reportedly rejected a request from Saudi Arabia for Syria to deploy military forces to Yemen to fight the Iran-aligned Houthi movement, according to TRT.
The reported request comes amid heightened tensions in and around Yemen, with the Houthis continuing to pose a security challenge in the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb, a strategically important maritime corridor for global shipping and energy supplies.
Syria’s decision would mean that Damascus does not plan to commit its forces to a Saudi-led military effort against the Houthis at this stage.
The report comes as regional governments continue to assess the security and military implications of the expanding confrontation involving Yemen and the wider Middle East.
