TAIWAN RECEIVES FIRST F-16Vs, ORDERS 2,000 U.S. DRONES
The first two F-16V Viper fighter jets destined for Taiwan are reportedly on their way to the island. The aircraft departed Lockheed Martin’s facilities in South Carolina and are expected to arrive soon at Taitung Air Base in eastern Taiwan.
The jets are part of Taiwan’s order for 66 F-16 Block 70 aircraft, a deal valued at approximately $8 billion. Deliveries are expected to continue through the end of 2028.
At the same time, Taipei is significantly expanding its drone capabilities. Taiwan has signed an $847 million contract with U.S. defense company Anduril to acquire approximately 2,000 Altius drones, which are expected to be used for intelligence, surveillance and strikes against military targets.
As China continues to expand and modernize its military, Taiwan is increasingly relying on a combination of advanced F-16 fighters and large numbers of drones to strengthen its defensive capabilities.
