TZ, Congolese, Malawians coming to vote, alleges Tonse Alliance

TONSE Alliance secretary general Celestine Mukandila has alleged that foreign nationals may enter Zambia through identified border areas to cast ballots in the forthcoming general election.

And Alliance presidential affairs chairman Binwell Mpundu has alleged that three members of the alliance who had reportedly travelled to Russia for VVIP protection training were abducted upon their arrival at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA).

Addressing the media this afternoon, Mukandila said the alliance had received intelligence suggesting that some foreign nationals in possession of Zambian National Registration Cards (NRCs) and voters’ cards could enter the country through Vubwi, Chilubi Highlands, Ikelenge, Isoka and other border districts.

“We have intelligence that foreigners may be brought in to vote through Chilubi Highlands, but we do not know how they may have obtained Zambian voters’ cards and NRCs.

“So we want to give marching orders to our colleagues and members in areas such as the swamps of Chilubi Highlands to be very observant and very vigilant.

“Areas such as Isoka, we want to urge our members to be vigilant because we have heard that Tanzanians may have our voters’ cards and NRCs. Areas such as Vubwi, the information we have is that we may have Malawians with Zambian voters’ cards and NRCs,” Mukandila alleged.

He further claimed that similar concerns had been raised in other parts of the country.

“Areas such as Chavuma, the information we have is that we may have Congolese with Zambian voters’ cards and NRCs. In Ikelenge, we have been informed that we may have Congolese and Angolans with voters’ cards and NRCs. So colleagues, we are giving you marching orders to be very vigilant and ensure that we protect this democratic process,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mpundu alleged that three alliance members who had been sent to Russia for specialised VVIP protection training had gone missing after returning to Zambia.

“We sent individuals to Russia to be trained. The individuals we sent to provide special protection to President Brian Mundubile and the running mate have been abducted.

“Gideon Kalopa, Victor Muzyamba and Dickson Tembo are missing as we speak. These are people we sent to receive VVIP protection training. When they returned to the country through KKIA, unknown individuals picked them up and we do not know where they are now.

“We have every reason to believe this has something to do with the State. If the State is not involved, then we have every reason to believe that rogue elements in the UPND are the ones holding our colleagues hostage,” Mpundu alleged.

He appealed to the international community to take interest in the matter and help establish the whereabouts of the three men.

The allegations made by Tonse Alliance have not been independently verified at the time of publication, and no response from the authorities on foreign nationals allegedly planning to come into Zambia to illegally vote, has been made available.

  1. In 2021, PF issued NRCs to underage children and foreigners in the area bordering Malawi and a Post Newspapers journalist made a report which resulted in the journalist being assaulted by the fugitive Mr. Emmanuel Jay Jay Banda, former Petauke MP, who urinated in his mouth and almost burned him.

A former PF DC was actually convicted and jailed in relation to this matter if my memory serves me right.

Now Tonse is being haunted by its own past.
