TEACHING SERVICE COMMISSION SUSPENDS 2025 TEACHER RECRUITMENT

The Teaching Service Commission has suspended the recruitment of 2,000 teachers that began last year as it determines how many additional teachers will be employed following President Hakainde Hichilema’s directive to recruit unemployed teachers identified during his campaign rallies.
Commission Chairperson Daphne Chimuka said the 2,000 teachers identified under the 2025 recruitment exercise had already been selected by District Human Resource Management Committees and completed the selection process.
Ms Chimuka has told Phoenix News that the teachers to be recruited under the Presidential directive will instead be accommodated within this year’s planned recruitment of 3,500 teachers, resulting in an increase in the total number of teachers to be employed.
Meanwhile, Ms Chimuka said the Commission will first validate the credentials of teachers offered employment under the Presidential directive before they are recruited into the public service.
She said the Commission is working with Provincial Administrations to compile lists of beneficiaries after which the Teaching Council of Zambia will verify their registration while the Examination Council of Zambia will authenticate their academic qualifications before appointments are made.
