The lowest levels of State Desperation, a shameless attempt to destroy

Today, Sunday 10th November 2024, is an extremely sad day for our Democracy and the Rule of Law.
We probably have said this before but the events and depravity of the lawlessness displayed today has probably helped a new low level of illegalities and absurdity being witnessed in the country.
We may not like Miles Sampa or approve of his ways. We recognise that he was a beneficiary of past lawlessness in State House’s clear attempt to steal and destroy the Patriotic Front, but Sampa obtained a valid court order signed by Lusaka High Court Judge, Hon. Mrs. Justice Conceptor Chinyanwa Zulu, to restrain Mafinga Member of Parliament, Robert Chabinga to purport or act as Patriotic Front President.
But with utter impunity and backed by heavily armed police officers, Chabinga defied the court order and proceeded to purport to act as PF President and made various ilegal pronouncements.
In tow were state agents, the Police and the media,like a team invited to a murder scene, abetting the crime and capturing the details to ensure that the sordid act was on full display to the country.
At the height of his waning power, Zambia’s founding father, Kenneth Kaunda refused to stop the wheels of Justice when the Police arrested his own son for murder and the Lusaka High Court proceeded to find
Kambarange Mpundu Kaunda guilty and sentenced him to death.
The day we abandon the respect of the Judiciary is the day our democracy will die.
That day is today.
In our case, we have a President in Mr. Hakainde Hichilema who will not defend the rule of law but allows the Zambia Police to promote and perpetrate lawlessness.
The Police hold suspects for days and months in prolonged detentions, torture and kill suspects in extra-judicial killings, protects law breakers like they did to Robert Chabinga and his charade.
Chabinga will be celebrated on ZNBC today and will the Zambia Police has granted him more police protection for his lawlessness and may even accompany him to the Patriotic Front Secretariat.
Chabinga also informed us of more illegalities and lawlessnes perpetrated by named officials at the Ministry of Home Affairs where office bearers recorded at the Registrar of Societies of the Patriotic Front, have been illegally changed once again.
Where is the Law Association of Zambia?
Where is the Chief Justice to ensure that his court orders as mandated by the Constitution are respected?
In September 2024, Kenya’s acting Inspector General of Police was sentenced to six months in prison after he repeatedly defied orders to testify about the whereabouts of three men held by the Police but could not be presented before Court for a Habeas Corpus hearing.
Chief Justice Martha Koome supported the decisions and orders of Justice Lawrence Mugambi and even caned the police when they attempted to withdrawal police security guarding the Judge.
In our country, from State House to the UPND Secretariat, they are with glee, celebrating this destruction of the largest Opposition party in the country.
