THE PARTIAL SUCCESS  OF THE UPND PROPAGANDA

Slowly, the focus on election irregularities is moving from the center to the periphery. Now, the subject is militias, treason and the death of Kafwaya.

Believe it or not, this is a partial success of the UPND propaganda. The closure of the courts was the nail that was driven into the coffin of the election irregularities’ debate.

This was the biggest headache because there were videos circulating showing the contrast between the results at Mulungushi and those announced at constituency level.

But now, that’s water under the bridge. The country will never know the truth regarding these apparent discrepancies.

Hichilema is looking towards the inauguration and nothing else matters. His second term is assured. Whatever the country and the rest of the world says about him and those in detention is neither here nor there.

Some of us are not writing because we want to see justice or the truth in respect of the election results. No, we are only writing so posterity will have reference material.

I also want posterity to know I never kept quiet in the face of deliberate assault against democracy. Hopefully, they will know that honesty in public affairs is a viable currency in the business of democracy.

Furthermore, I want posterity to know that they still need to work on democracy because the current crop of political leaders in office has lamentably failed. They are too weak, clumsy and desperate to play fair for fear of loss of power.

However, nothing prevents posterity from opening an inquiry into this election for purposes of seeking justice and closure.

Meanwhile, I accept that the propaganda machinery of the UPND government aided by the weaponization of security institutions of the state has successfully diverted national attention from the real issue – election results.

However, it’s a very indecent victory over justice and fairplay.
