WHO IS FRANK BUYANGA?
Frank Buyanga Sadiqi is a British‑born Zimbabwean businessman known for his property ventures and high‑profile public image.
In South Africa, he became associated with Hamilton Property Holdings and cultivated the persona of a man living in absolute luxury.
But behind the cars, the hotels and the headlines was a complicated legal history one that would eventually pull him into a cross‑border storm.
THE CHILD CUSTODY BATTLE
In April 2020, the Zimbabwean High Court ordered Buyanga to return his young son to the child’s mother, Chantelle Tatenda Muteswa, within 24 hours.
Court records state that he did not comply and left Zimbabwe with the child.
A warrant of arrest followed, linked to allegations including kidnapping, robbery and contempt of court.
These remain allegations, not convictions.
The custody dispute soon crossed borders and the stakes escalated.
THEN SOUTH AFRICA
For more than two years, Buyanga stayed outside Zimbabwe.
Then, on 10 November 2022, Interpol South Africa assisted by the SAPS National Intervention Unit arrested him at an upmarket Sandton hotel.
Authorities said he was wanted by Zimbabwe and listed under an Interpol Red Notice.
He appeared before the Randburg Magistrates’ Court.
And that moment marked the beginning of an extraordinary legal journey.
HE GOT BAIL BUT DIDN’T WALK FREE
On 9 December 2022, Buyanga was granted R150,000 bail in the extradition matter.
But he remained in custody because he was also facing a separate South African case involving allegations of fraud, false statements under oath, defeating the administration of justice and immigration offences.
So bail didn’t mean freedom.
It meant another battle.
THE YEARS STARTED ADDING UP
2022 turned into 2023.
2023 turned into 2024.
2024 turned into 2025.
And Buyanga remained behind bars.

Later court records mention allegations of an attempted escape arrangement and allegations of corrupt activities while incarcerated.

But courts considered them relevant when assessing whether releasing him on bail would be in the interests of justice.

By 2026, the case was remarkable simply because of how long Buyanga had been in custody.
His lawyers raised new arguments about:

– his deteriorating health

– his immigration status
– the relationship between the separate proceedings
But on 13 August 2026, the Gauteng High Court dismissed his latest bail appeal.
The judge ruled that the issues raised did not amount to “new facts” and that the lower court’s decision stood.
As of 31 August 2026, the legal maze continues.
