There are no protests against Zambia at the UN – Haimbe
FOREIGN Affairs Minister Mulambo Haimbe says Zambia was warmly received at the opening of the 81st United Nations General Assembly contrary to reports that there are protests by Zambians in the diaspora at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Haimbe, who is representing President Hakainde Hichilema at the UN General Assembly, said reports circulating on social media about Zambians protesting against the country were not true.
“There is no such thing as protests against Zambia. Let us not listen to the allegations on social media that there is any sort of protest against Zambia,” Haimbe said.
Haimbe disclosed that he had interacted with Zambians living in the United States who, according to him, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the August 2026 General Elections.
He said some members of the Zambian community had expressed happiness over President Hichilema’s re-election and optimism about the country’s continued development.
Haimbe has since urged Zambians to put their political differences aside and focus on peace and national unity now that the elections are over.
“Let us continue talking peace and unity. Let us live together. It is one of those things, those who voted for and those who voted against; we are now past the election, let us move forward,” he said.
Meanwhile, Zambia has established diplomatic relations with the Principality of Andorra after Haimbe signed a Joint Communique with Andorra’s Foreign Affairs Minister Imma Tor Faus.
The agreement, signed on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, is expected to create opportunities for cooperation between the two countries in areas such as tourism, digital governance, financial services, education and climate action.

Zambia also took part in a high-level meeting on the implementation of the Pact for the Future.
Health Minister Roma Chilengi also attended the launch of a report on reforms to the global health system and governance.
Haimbe is expected to deliver Zambia’s National Statement on Monday, on behalf of President Hichilema, where he will call for stronger multilateral cooperation.
