PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has confidently declared that the opposition Tonse-Pamodzi Alliance faces a crushing defeat in the upcoming August 13 general elections, asserting that Zambia is far too vast for them to mount a successful challenge against the ruling party.
Addressing the John Chinena Community during a campaign tour, President Hichilema stated that opposition presidential candidate Brian Mundubile and his running mate Makabi Zulu have an insurmountable uphill climb before they could contemplate ousting the UPND from office.
The Head of State did not mince his words, predicting that the two opposition figures would be left in tears once the final electoral results were officially announced.
Drawing from his political experience, Mr Hichilema questioned the audacity of the alliance leaders in seeking the presidency when they had failed to account for national resources allegedly plundered during the Patriotic Front’s (PF) 10-year tenure in power.
He challenged Mr Mundubile and Mr Zulu to first explain where the missing public funds went and how they intend to develop the nation after failing to do so while serving in the previous regime.
Warning the local community against what he described as political deception, President Hichilema likened the Tonse-Pamodzi Alliance to wolves arriving in different clothing.
He mocked their rebranding efforts, noting that they previously wore formal suits and shoes but had now switched to tight shirts, jeans and sneakers to appear modern and relatable.
“They are the same,” Mr Hichilema remarked, adding that one cannot finish eating leftovers in the morning when full and suddenly claim they want to run for the presidency.
Highlighting his administration’s track record over the last five years, the President pointed to several key milestones achieved by the UPND Government.
These include the massive construction of the Lusaka-Ndola road, significant increments to the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), and the large-scale recruitment of health and education personnel across the country.
To further demonstrate his commitment to local development, Mr Hichilema pledged to build a new market and a modern health facility specifically for the residents of John Chinena.
Concluding his address, the President made a passionate plea to the citizens to turn out in large numbers and cast their votes directly for the UPND.
He strongly cautioned voters against spoiling their ballots, emphasizing that a single spoiled vote could inadvertently harm the ruling party’s chances of securing a decisive mandate to continue its development agenda.
