Thierry Henry Compares Victor Osimhen to Erling Haaland: “For the past few seasons, I feel Victor Osimhen has been sidelined in football conversations. His name is not mentioned as much as it used to be, especially from his time at Napoli
But he joined Galatasaray and has kept the exact same form. We could talk about his numbers all day, but my main question is simple: why is he not higher in the conversation? Why is he not mentioned more?
For me, he is still right up there. When we talk about the best strikers in the world right now – Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappé, Erling Haaland – Victor Osimhen cannot be left on the bench in that discussion.
Sometimes it would be very difficult to choose who starts in a combined team.
Harry Kane is the Ballon d’Or winner, of course. Kylian Mbappé is right behind him – both fully deserved. So who is left? Erling Haaland and Victor Osimhen.
Looking at these two, both are absolute animals in the final third. But let me ask you something… do you think if Victor Osimhen played at Manchester City, with those players around him, he would achieve the same as Erling Haaland? For me, I think he would do even more.
And what if Erling went to Galatasaray? Don’t get me wrong, Galatasaray have very good players. But would he make the same noise Victor is making over there right now?
This also reminds me of when Barcelona showed interest in Victor Osimhen. Under Hansi Flick, that would have been one of the most feared attacking teams in Europe if it had happened.
For me, Victor Osimhen still has the potential to go far above where he is right now. A Ballon d’Or is possible. Africans have the talent. They just need the right platform and the recognition that comes with it.
