Sipalo takes content monetization fight to Parley

MUNALI Member of Parliament Thomas Sipalo says he will push for content creation to become a full-time, income-generating job, arguing that creators should no longer be expected to work for free despite the time, talent and money they invest.

Sipalo popularly known as Diffikoti in the entertainment industry, said content creation is too demanding to be treated as a pastime hobby when those behind it have to spend money and time producing work.

“Content creation is both expensive and time-consuming. It must never be taken as a pastime hobby,” Sipalo said in a statement.

“Creators need to start earning a living from their God-given talents and efforts. It’s time we monetise it.”

The comedian-turned lawmaker said he intended to raise the matter on the floor of Parliament to push for the arts industry to be recognized and supported under the Government’s Grow Zambia Agenda.

Sipalo said his experience as a retired artiste had not weakened his commitment to advocating for better opportunities for people working in the arts industry.

“As a retired artiste myself, my heart still remains committed to pushing for better opportunities for our art industry,” he said.

He said the Grow Zambia Agenda should recognize the economic value of the arts by creating an environment where content creators can turn their talents into sustainable careers.

“The Grow Zambia Agenda must carry with it the value on arts by making content creation a full-time job,” Sipalo said.

Sipalo has joined the chorus of content creators who increasingly use digital platforms to share their work, to have their content generate income.
