Those in the diaspora should stop spreading hate, tribalism – Munir

PEOPLE in the diaspora who claim to support the opposition should stop using social media to spread hate messages and tribalism, former Lumezi Member of Parliament Munir Zulu has said.

Zulu said it is unfortunate that some people living outside Zambia are attempting to dictate how political challenges should be handled when they are not on the ground to experience the situation themselves.

He said Zambian problems can only be properly addressed by Zambians who are directly affected by them.

“I have been made aware of my name trending on some social platforms that are managed by lunatics in the diaspora. I don’t mind about it. Zambian problems can only be addressed by we, the Zambian people,” Zulu said.

The former Lumezi lawmaker and a staunch supporter of opposition Tonse alliance leader Brian Mundubile said it is particularly disturbing that some people who pretend to support the opposition are the first to spread hateful and tribal messages.

“It is sad that amongst those that pretend or project themselves to support our organisation are the first people to spread hate messages, tribalism. It’s nonsensical. They are not here,” he said.

Zulu said people in Zambia are the ones facing the challenges on the ground and should therefore be allowed to determine how best to deal with them.

“We face all the difficulties from our land, from the battlefront. We shall not use social media platforms to handle difficulties. We shall face them head on,” he said.

He also said he would not be pressured into responding to every insult thrown at him online.

“I speak to president Mundubile myself. I know his status. I know his condition. I speak to president Makebi Zulu. I know his status. I know his condition,” he said.

He questioned why people who, according to him, have no first-hand information should attempt to dictate what those in Zambia should do.

“Then you, who has no idea, wants to dictate and call us names,” Zulu said.

Zulu called for sanity in Zambian politics, saying political differences should not be used as an excuse to spread tribalism, hatred and misinformation.

He further noted that there are some people within the Tonse leadership who were giving wrong information to individuals in the diaspora which resulted in attacks and misleading narratives on social media.
