THREE CANDIDATES PULL OUT OF MANDEVU BY-ELECTION, LEAVING BANDA AS SOLE CONTENDER
UPND candidate Adrian Banda is set to become the sole contender in the Mandevu Constituency parliamentary by-election following the withdrawal of three opposition candidates ahead of the November 5 poll.
The candidates who have withdrawn are Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) candidate Daniel Chisenga, independent candidate Daniel Daka and Leadership Movement candidate Ntazana Muntungwa.
In separate letters dated October 28, 2026, the three candidates formally notified the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) of their decisions to withdraw from the race.
Chisenga, who had been identified as the Tonse Alliance candidate, did not give reasons for his withdrawal.
Daka asked the commission to exclude him from the election, while Muntungwa cited financial constraints as the reason for his decision.
The withdrawals leave Banda as the only candidate among the four previously approved contenders.
However, his unopposed election will depend on the applicable electoral procedures and formal confirmation by the ECZ.
