TONSE ALLIANCE TAKES  ECZ TO COURT OVER THE MANDEVU CONSTITUENCY ELECTION

2

WE HAVE TAKEN THE ECZ TO COURT OVER THE MANDEVU CONSTITUENCY ELECTION!

We have formally challenged the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) over the legality of its decision to cancel and proceed with holding another election in Mandevu Constituency.

Our position is clear: the ECZ has acted beyond its lawful mandate and, in our view, usurped powers constitutionally vested in the High Court. We contend that there is no legal provision or authority empowering the Commission to take the action it has taken.

Through an urgent court application, we have asked the High Court to intervene by staying (stopping) the announced election scheduled for 5 November 2026, pending the determination of the legal issues surrounding the matter.

Our position is that questions of legality and constitutional authority must be resolved by the courts of law, not through unilateral administrative decisions.

THE RULE OF LAW MUST PREVAIL!
We are pleased to confirm that our application has been successfully received by the High Court.

This is about more than an election. It is about constitutional order, respect for the rule of law, and ensuring that every public institution operates within the limits of its legal mandate.
Let the law take its course. Let justice prevail.

Wherever we want to go our feet will take us there. Ni pamakasafye

  1. Before your candidate withdrew it was fine to hold the election and now since you can win the seat you ran to the court, why is it that if things favour you tonse its within the requirements of law, if not it not law.
