TONSE ALLIANCE UNVEILS MANIFESTO, BACKS MUNDUBILE AS 2026 FLAG BEARER
…As Secretary General Chris Zumani reveals late President Lungu’s “Plan B”
LUSAKA, Saturday– The Tonse Alliance formally launched its 2026 election manifesto at the Golden Peacock Hotel in Lusaka today, declaring Hon. Brian Mundubile as the opposition bloc’s presidential candidate and vowing to end what it called “suffering and undemocratic governance.”
In remarks to alliance members and media, Secretary General Chris Zumani, former political advisor to late president Edgar Lungu, said the core purpose of forming the Tonse Alliance was to “find the most popular leader in the opposition” who could unite Zambians ahead of the 2026 general election.
“The alliance held a conference and elected Hon. Brian Mundubile who emerged as the most popular candidate,” Dr. Zumani announced to applause.
In a striking disclosure, Dr. Zumani said the late President Edgar Lungu had personally discussed his “Plan B” with him after the courts blocked Lungu from standing in the 2026 polls.
“Mundubile was among the top five PF members whom President Lungu wanted to use to win the election as his Plan B,” Dr. Zumani told the gathering.
He added: “The political wind of change is blowing towards Brian Mundubile and the Tonse Alliance.”
Dr. Esther Banda, one of the technocrats who drafted the document, described it as a “transformative manifesto that will result in improving the lives of ordinary citizens.”
“Development should be felt by the citizens, not political rhetoric,” she said.
Dr. Banda explained one of the manifesto’s defining phrases, “nakulu Mutinta ne imisepela pamakasa,” saying it refers to the poor, marginalized and ordinary Zambians, especially mothers and youths who rise before sunrise to hustle for survival, whose economic affairs should be improved.
She added that the manifesto aims to restore democracy, the rule of law, and public trust, while rebuilding the state and professionalizing the civil service.
Alliance Vice president Chifumu Banda said the document would “change and deliver Zambia’s social and economic transformation.”
Closing the launch, Alliance President Brian Mundubile pledged an inclusive government if elected.
He envisioned a modern, industrialized Zambia where opportunity is not a privilege for the connected few, but a right for every citizen.
“Under the Tonse Alliance, I will form a government that is inclusive, with equal recognition and power for Zambians from all 10 provinces,” president Mundubile said.
He stressed that only through unity of purpose would the alliance liberate Zambia.
“Enough is enough of suffering and undemocratic governance,” he added.
The launch sets the stage for what is expected to be a heated run-up to 2026, with the Tonse Alliance positioning Mundubile as the unity candidate of the opposition and heir to Lungu’s political base.

Anyone associated with the former ruling party PF, must be treated with extreme caution. These are the same people who drove our country to the brink of total collapse, but for divine intervention.
We are coming out of the nightmarish hole they dug us into and now they want to take us back to the hellish days of cadre violence, corruption, lawlessness, vulgar language and exclusive opportunity (for their cadres only).
Expect a double dose of all the hell we experienced during the reign of PF. They still hold on to the ideals of their great leader, Mr. Lungu and we all know what his legacy is. This time around, they will take no prisoners.
Akabwelelo kalalya.
Just a grouping of thieves trying to come back to steal more funds from our treasury. They left the economy in ICU.They were giving themselves contracts just to steal these thieves.Nothing new from these people
Only a fool can think of giving these criminals a vote
With anyone associated with PF in leadership, you are sure to go back to ‘HELL’!
It is still a very tribal grouping as far as who leads the party is concerned.
ZA YELLOW who sacrificed to hold the party together and his Secretary General Nakachinda have definitely not been considered because it must be a NORTHERNER- EASTERNER AFFAIR and not about who is popular on the Zambian Political scene.
Are you sure mundubile can be more popular than Given Lubinda? Given has a track record, and when you look at Kabwata Constituency, it’s face shines like his face today because of his hard work and serious engagement with his constituents.
Who knew Brian Mundubile and what has he done for the people of Mporokoso?
In Bemba we say ‘ICHIKWAFWA BACHMWENA KUMANPALANYA’. That is deep and Zambians must not be cheated that the man has no substance.
When he is dressed in his suits, you would assume he carries the substance and integrity desirable and expected of a leader.
I was only recently disappointed when I heard some statements coming from him:
1. That when elected, he will rule like ECL.
2. Then his reaction to his arrest on being Bonded: ‘Ifi wanchita boyi HH, wailetelela. Inenshitina boyi, inenshakwata mwenso boyi’.
Just these two statements reveal his inner self and that gives you an idea he has no clue what he his standing for but to have access to the treasury and enrich himself at the expense of ordinary Zambians.
It is a coded message to the caders that he will bring them back, and this he cemented by his Kopala tone to excite them.
That he will allow harassment of ordinary Zambians.
That he will allow meal allowances for university students to be scrapped.
That he will allow ministers to borrow at will as long as he has his cut.
That he will allow tribalism to flourish.
That he will ensure the pangas are back on Zambians who dared question why certain things were being done in a certain way.
To be honest, Plan B was about the escape, the sacrifice for his children whom he told to mention him as the giver of their suspicious wealth, takeoff, ‘die’ and live no witness! Then go out there, organize a come back by any means.
This is the reason Kaiser Zulu, JJ , former assistant to FTJ, Munir Zulu and others that have since relocated to other countries on the pretext of harassment must be followed very closely. This is a very dangerous group of individuals with uncontrollable anger against who they believe as not deserving leadership in this country.
These are the people Brian is sending a signal to, that he will embrace them!
This country is no joke. It needs serious leaders such as the current one who has put the country back on track. He is not the excited type. HH has set the bar so high, it will be difficult for people like Brian to emulate him.
As for Zumani, it is difficult to follow him because he is like a yoyo! Today he says ECL personally told him that Makebi was his choice, tomorrow the mouth will shock Zambians with a new name ‘ One who is popular’!
As Zambians, no one is looking for a tribal grouping for leaders.
Zambians are looking at the integrity, consistency and track record in a candidate. A Team that agrees to work for Zambians with respect for everyone, regardless of colour, tribe or creed. Zambians don’t forget easily as some people may want to believe.
Zambians want to see where their money is going and not noise of infrastructure ( conduit for syphoning money from the treasury)and pomp.
Zambians are being taken for granted by the PF. They have splintered into fragmented groupings and calling themselves this or that name, thinking Zambians don’t know that they are like hyenas that disguise themselves in goat skins and hope they can fool them to their extinction.
Forget the effort of getting back into leadership all of you, everyone knows you are the same PF with old habits.
Awarding themselves with huge contracts and getting paid without doing the work, over priced goods and supplying air instead of supplying goods and services. We have moved away from that kind of life, and we wouldn’t want to go back to it.
When Zambians have had it and decide to move on for better the trend is they don’t turn back to what they choose to discard! PF may try to buy trendy new clothing but Zambians still identify who the wearer is! Let not the inept Mundubile cry foul when he fails to lodge nomination papers for the alliance is not a political party sponsoring the candidature! This is a loose alliance with no solid structure to be able to lodge in all the desired prerequisites as demanded by the ECZ of all expected contestants! Rather than mislead Zambians as self assessment of existing chances of dislodging the current party in government mounts leading to obvious failure of Mundubile appearing on the ballot, Him and his bunch of zealots must respect and obey the law in their conduct as date of general elections approaches! How many Lungu’s Plan B were there? Yes pity Given Lubinda now I believe that scheming against him and suspectedly with Lungu’s involvement had started a long time within PF even underway when rogue PF cadres attacked him in the market! Given wasn’t good enough for the party with this click of people! Where to now Zayelo?
