Tonse wave a sign huge group of people are dissatisfied with what’s going on — Mwanza
DEMOCRATIC Progress Party— DPP leader Antonio Mwanza says each time Zambians have changed governments, they have not voted a political party into power but have instead voted against the ruling party.
Speaking on the “Mind Your Business podcast” hosted by Joseph Mwenda, Mwanza said Tonse Alliance candidates are gaining significant traction because of what he described as widespread dissatisfaction with the UPND government.
“One of the things why Tonse is getting a lot of traction is that, it’s an indictment on President Hakainde Sammy Hichilema. Zambians from 1991, 2011, and 2021, have demonstrated that they don’t vote for a political party, no. They vote against a ruling political party,” Mwanza said.
He said Zambians tend to vote against the government of the day when they become dissatisfied or frustrated with its performance.
“When they are dissatisfied, they’re frustrated, they vote against the ruling party. And if you look at the wave, the Tonse is having, it is a clear indictment that there is a huge amount of people in Zambia that are not satisfied with what is going on,” he said.
Mwanza said the growing support for Tonse Alliance candidates could therefore be an indication that a significant number of Zambians are prepared to use their votes to express their dissatisfaction with the UPND
He said the trend should serve as a warning to the ruling party ahead of the August 13 general elections.
“That huge group is willing to give a vote of no confidence in the UPND,” Mwanza said.
