TOORO ROYAL WAR ERUPTS: Oyo’s Family Drags Prince Kijanangoma And Omusuuga Charles to Court Over Succession

The Tooro succession battle has taken a dramatic turn, with members of the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV’s immediate royal family rushing to court to challenge the announcement of Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma as the new Omukama of Tooro.

Prince Yoweri Komwiswa, Princess Ruth Nsemere Komuntale, Queen Mother Best Kemigisa and Princess Elizabeth Bagaya have filed a case before the High Court in Fort Portal, challenging the decision to name Kijanangoma as Oyo’s successor.

The case targets Kijanangoma and Omusuuga Charles Kayondo Kamurasi, following the Babiito clan’s selection committee announcement on September 9 declaring Kijanangoma the successor to the late King Oyo.

However, the immediate royal family is rejecting the decision, reportedly insisting that Oyo’s will expressed a preference for his biological son to succeed him.

The legal battle has now thrown Tooro’s royal succession into further uncertainty, coming just days before King Oyo’s burial, scheduled for Saturday at Karambi Royal Grounds.

The dispute has exposed deep divisions between the wider Babiito clan leadership and the late king’s immediate family over succession customs and the interpretation of Oyo’s reported final wishes.
