TRUMP ACKNOWLEDGES IRAN WAR HELPED COST REPUBLICANS CONGRESS

Donald Trump has acknowledged that the war in Iran contributed to Republican losses in the midterms, as Democrats won control of both the House and Senate. He nevertheless defended the decision to launch the war, saying he would do it again.

Trump pointed particularly to higher gasoline prices. But the consequences stretched across months, adding to the financial pressure on American households and becoming a major campaign issue. Calling that simply a short-term inconvenience overlooks the burden voters were carrying.

For Ukraine, the distinction matters. Kyiv cannot be made responsible for Washington’s decisions in the Middle East or the political consequences that followed. Ukraine is fighting to survive Russia’s invasion, and its defence should never become a convenient explanation for another administration’s failures.

Zelenskyy has continued making Ukraine’s case under immense pressure from its most powerful partner: expressing gratitude for American assistance while defending his country’s sovereignty and challenging narratives that shift responsibility away from Russia.

That requires resolve. Maintaining a vital relationship with Washington does not mean accepting every accusation or surrendering Ukraine’s right to determine its future.

The election was decided by American voters for many reasons. Trump’s own acknowledgment makes one thing clear: the consequences of his Iran policy cannot simply be laid at Ukraine’s door.
