Trump Announces Greenland Security Deal
President Donald Trump says the US has reached a new security agreement with Denmark and Greenland that would expand US military access in the strategically important Arctic territory.
The proposed deal would restrict Russia, China and other adversaries from establishing military bases or making sensitive investments in Greenland without US approval.
The agreement is expected to be signed during next week’s UN General Assembly in New York, but would still require approval from Danish and Greenlandic authorities. Officials say it would preserve Denmark’s sovereignty and Greenland’s right to self-determination while strengthening US-Arctic defense cooperation.
