BREAKING: “WE CAN ABSOLUTELY DENATURALIZE HER!” – Trump border czar Tom Homan admits Trump is investigating whether he can strip Ilhan Omar of her American citizenship!
Donald Trump’s long-running campaign against Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar took a stunning turn on Fox News this morning when border czar Tom Homan was asked directly whether the government is building a case to strip the Minnesota congresswoman of her U.S. citizenship.
“She is, though, a naturalized U.S. citizen,” Fox host Kayleigh McEnany said. “What would need to happen for her to be kicked out of the country if some fraud is proven?”
Then the direct question: “Is there a denaturalization case that is being brought against her?”
Homan conspicuously did not answer that question yes or no, but instead explained how the government might be able to do it.
“We have denaturalized citizens based on fraud, based on lying on their applications, or lying through the process, misrepresenting themselves,” Homan said. “If someone lies through that process to become a citizen, and we can prove they, in fact, lied or misrepresented themselves, we can absolutely denaturalize them.”
The exchange, of course, didn’t occur in a political vacuum. Vice President JD Vance has publicly accused Omar of immigration fraud and said he discussed possible legal remedies with White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller.
Omar’s office called Vance’s allegation a “ridiculous lie,” and nothing has become of it since.
McEnany followed up with the obvious question: What does he say to critics who believe pursuing Omar would be politically motivated?
“There’s nothing political about it,” Homan said with a straight face.
“ICE is enforcing law that Congress wrote,” he continued. “None of us are making this up.”
That defense of the law itself is technically true. Federal law allows citizenship to be revoked when naturalization was illegally obtained or procured through concealment of a material fact or willful misrepresentation. Trump’s DOJ is currently pursuing an unusually aggressive denaturalization campaign, including a record batch of 25 cases filed this summer.
But Congress writing the law doesn’t answer McEnany’s question about why the government might choose to wield it against this particular politically active American citizen.
Omar’s isn’t some random name discovered during a routine review. She is a sitting Democratic congresswoman whom Trump and his allies have attacked repeatedly, and senior administration officials have publicly discussed finding a legal avenue to pursue her citizenship. The allegation underlying those threats remains unproven.
And Homan never answered the simplest question McEnany asked him, which we’ll rephrase:
Are you trying to run Ilhan Omar out of the country?
