Trump Claims Iran Requested Another Chance for Nuclear Talks
U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran is asking for another opportunity to negotiate, saying Tehran contacted him directly to request that the United States refrain from launching military action in exchange for a possible agreement.
Speaking to Fox News correspondent Lucas Tomlinson, Trump said Iranian officials had reached out with what he described as a plea to avoid further conflict.
“They called me, and they said, ‘Please don’t attack us. We’ll make a deal,'” Trump said.
He added:
“That’s the real truth, and everybody knows it.”
Trump’s comments come amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, as conflicting accounts continue to emerge over the status of diplomatic contacts. While Trump has repeatedly insisted that negotiations are underway and that Iran is seeking an agreement, Iranian officials have consistently denied engaging in direct talks with the United States, maintaining that any diplomatic communication takes place only through intermediaries such as Oman.
The remarks also follow Trump’s recent accusations that Iran is pursuing a “double game” by privately seeking negotiations while publicly denying that any direct discussions are taking place.
Iran has not publicly responded to Trump’s latest claims, and there has been no independent confirmation that Iranian officials made the phone call or delivered the message described by the U.S. president.
