Trump Explains Hesitation Over Sending Patriot Missiles to Ukraine

U.S. President Donald Trump has explained why he remains reluctant to provide additional Patriot air defense missile systems to Ukraine, citing concerns about the long-term implications of transferring advanced American military technology.

Speaking on the issue, Trump praised the Patriot system’s capabilities but said the United States must exercise caution before supplying such weapons abroad.

“These weapons are incredible. We have to be very careful before we give them away. You give them this technology and one day they can turn against you,” Trump said.

The president’s comments underscore his administration’s cautious approach to transferring some of the U.S. military’s most advanced defense systems, despite continued requests from Kyiv for additional air defense capabilities.

Ukraine has repeatedly called for more Patriot batteries to help defend its cities and critical infrastructure against missile and drone attacks. The Patriot system is widely regarded as one of the world’s most effective air defense platforms for intercepting ballistic missiles and other aerial threats.

Trump’s remarks are likely to fuel debate in Washington over the balance between supporting Ukraine’s defense and safeguarding sensitive U.S. military technology. No new decision on additional Patriot deliveries has been officially announced.
