BREAKING: Trump EXPLODES after the Republican senator whose career he destroyed refuses to do him one last favor!
Donald Trump erupted early this morning after outgoing Sen. John Cornyn refused to support the permanent confirmation of Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, unleashing an epic Truth Social rant against the Texas Republican just months after helping end his Senate career.
In a post shortly after 7 a.m., Trump accused Cornyn of suddenly turning against his administration over the Justice Department’s abandoned $1.8 billion slush fund to compensate people he claims were unfairly targeted during the Biden administration, including many Jan. 6 defendants.
“I will always feel that these victims of government abuse should be paid back for what they were forced to endure, their lives have been ruined!” Trump wrote before insisting that “perhaps there has never been a group of people treated so badly in our Nation’s history.”
The outburst comes despite Trump endorsing Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton over Cornyn in the Republican primary, putting an end to the senator’s decades-long career in Washington. Cornyn will leave office in January after losing the nomination to Trump’s preferred candidate.
Amazingly, Trump appears to be stunned that the senator he helped push out the door is no longer willing to fall in line.
Cornyn and retiring North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis have both said they will not support Blanche’s confirmation unless the Justice Department permanently abandons the controversial slush fund.
Blanche announced in June that the DOJ would no longer pursue it, but the senators have demanded assurances that it cannot be quietly revived later.
Their opposition was enough for Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley to postpone Thursday’s confirmation vote after it became clear Blanche lacked the votes to advance.
Rather than blame his own nominee’s uncertain future on the bipartisan backlash against the compensation proposal, Trump blamed Cornyn.
“I have no objection to temporarily withdrawing Todd’s name, if they do not do the right thing, and putting him back after Cornyn and Tillis are out of office,” Trump wrote in a separate post.
