TRUMP: HOUTHIS CONTACTED U.S. TO AVOID CONFRONTATION

U.S. President Donald Trump said on September 12 that the Houthis had contacted Washington and indicated that they do not want the United States to intervene against them in Yemen.

«“The Houthis contacted us, and they don’t want to fight us. They let us know that they don’t want us to attack them. They would much rather that we not be involved.”»

Trump also said the Houthis are allowing most ships to pass through the region, but claimed that they remain particularly opposed to Saudi Arabia.

“There is one country [Saudi Arabia] that they are not very happy with, and we are going to take care of that,” Trump said.

The remarks come amid heightened tensions involving the Houthis, Saudi Arabia and the wider regional conflict, with concerns over maritime security and shipping routes in the Red Sea and surrounding waters.
