Trump Promises Gasoline Below $2 After U.S. Victory in Iran War
U.S. President Donald Trump has made a new promise to Americans, linking the outcome of the war with Iran directly to future energy prices.
In a Truth Social post, Trump said oil prices would “drop precipitously” once the United States wins the war with Iran. He predicted gasoline could first fall to around $3 per gallon and ultimately drop below $2.
Trump also reiterated that Iran would never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon, framing a U.S. victory in the conflict as the turning point for both regional security and energy prices.
The promise comes as the opposite trend is currently unfolding. Brent crude has climbed above $100 per barrel amid the latest escalation between the United States and Iran, with attacks and disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz raising fears over global oil supplies.
U.S. gasoline prices have also risen sharply, with the national average reported at around $4.15–$4.22 per gallon, making Trump’s prediction of prices below $2 a politically significant pledge.
The timing is also politically sensitive as the United States approaches the 2026 midterm elections, with high energy prices and inflation becoming major issues for voters and the Trump administration.
Whether gasoline can ultimately fall below $2 per gallon will depend on the duration of the conflict, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, global oil supply and demand, and the broader stability of energy markets.
