TRUMP PUSHES NEW MEXICO REBRAND TO NEW AMERICA FOR PRESTIGE AND HONEST ELECTIONS
President Trump is calling for New Mexico to drop its current name and become New America immediately.
He says the state is part of the United States, not Mexico, and that the new name would boost prestige, raise home values and incomes, and make residents prouder to salute the American flag. He also noted it might finally fix the crooked elections the state has long been known for.
This fits Trump’s pattern of Americanizing geographic names, after he already renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and Lake Ontario to Lake America.
He has shared maps crossing out “Mexico” and replacing it with “America,” and he has said the idea comes from many people who see it as a better fit for a potentially incredible state.
New Mexico Democrats rejected the idea outright, with the governor insisting the name is not up for debate.
Trump has no direct power to force a state name change, which would require action inside New Mexico itself.
Still, the push highlights his focus on putting America first and cleaning up places associated with election problems.
