TRUMP WAS REPEATEDLY WARNED BEFORE THE IRAN WAR, WSJ REPORTS
Before the war with Iran began, President Donald Trump reportedly received repeated warnings from senior U.S. officials about the potential consequences of military action, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Then-Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard warned that removing Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei could lead to a more hardline regime one potentially more determined to acquire nuclear weapons, close the Strait of Hormuz, and attack U.S. forces and American allies.
Vice President JD Vance reportedly argued that diplomacy should be given more time, while senior military commanders warned about potential casualties, concerns over weapons stockpiles and the strain on U.S. military readiness.
At the same time, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and several of Trump’s top advisers reportedly argued that Iran was at its weakest point in decades, presenting an opportunity for decisive military action.
Despite those warnings, Trump ultimately proceeded with the attack.
The episode highlights the internal debate within the Trump administration over whether military force could achieve its objectives without triggering a broader regional conflict.
